William John Evans (August 16, 1929 - September 15, 1980) was an American pianist and composer who worked primarily with his
trio.
His interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines continues to influence pianists today.
Evans joined Miles Davis's sextet, which recorded Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album ever.
